Drake Doremus is an award-winning director across film, commercials and branded content. His latest feature, Newness, released late last year and produced by Scott Free, stars Nicholas Hoult, Laia Costa, Danny Houston, Matthew Gray Gubler, Courtney Eaton and Albert Hammond Jr. It follows two millennials navigating a boundary-pushing relationship in a social media-driven hookup culture. Drake broke through in 2011 with the critically acclaimed and wildly popular Like Crazy, a Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner for Best Picture starring Felicity Jones, Jennifer Lawrence and the late Anton Yelchin.
In the realm of commercials and branded content, Drake directed Intel/Toshiba’s short film series called The Beauty Inside which won an unprecedented three Grand Prix Awards in Film, Branded Content & Entertainment and Cyber Lion categories at the 2013 Cannes Lions, and a 2013 EMMY Award in the category of Outstanding New Approaches–Original Series. Other short-form highlights include commercials for Hugo Boss, GE, Google, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Orange, Oxford and Johnson & Johnson.
Drake’s latest film is Zoe, a romance starring Ewan McGregor and Lea Seydoux, slated to debut later this year. His feature film Equals, the futuristic love story starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, premiered at Venice International Film Festival where it was nominated for a Golden Lion, and was released in 2016. He also co-wrote and directed the feature film Breathe In starring Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones and Amy Ryan which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and his dark comedy Douchebag was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2010. Drake is currently teaming with Amazon to co-executive produce and direct his first TV series based on Jardine Libaire’s acclaimed novel White Fur.
